Sweet potatoes represent one of the best things you can feed your young infant when you begin to feed them food. These tubers are high in potassium, calcium and Vitamin C and once cooked are soft and easy to mash and digest.

The following guide details everything that you need along with the full process required to create delicious and 100% home made sweet potato baby food for your little bundle of awesome.

Utensils Required:

Fork, knife, food processor/blender, microwave & paper towel, and a plastic container with a tight lid

Ingredients:

A sweet potato

Preparation Time:

15 minutes

1

Wash and Poke Before cooking your sweet potato, wash it well under running water and pat it dry. Use a fork to pierce small holes into the flesh of the potato, which will aid the cooking process.

2

Microwave It Place the potato on a sheet of paper towel and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Carefully flip the potato top to bottom and cook on high for another 5 minutes.

3

Cut and Peel Allow the potato to cool and then get to removing the skin. Use a knife to cut the potato in half. Once you have done so, use a spoon to scrap the good stuff from the skin.

4

Process It Place the potato in a food processor and mash until smooth. Remove from the food processor into a clean storage container using a spoon.

5

Additions If you wish to thin or add nutrients to your baby's food, add breast milk, formula and even water. If on the other hand you wish to thicken your concoction, add infant cereal slowly while stirring. Mix the ingredients well until blended.

6

Storage Baby food should be stored in your fridge for no more than 2 days. Never feed your baby from the same container you use to store, as the baby's saliva (from the spoon) can contaminate the food.
